Datia Election 2026: The by-election to be held on Datia assembly seat of Madhya Pradesh has now become the center of political discussion. The stir in the politics of the state has intensified after Bharatiya Janata Party made Ashutosh Tiwari its candidate in place of Dr. Narottam Mishra. Meanwhile, Congress has also announced the name of its candidate, while Shiv Sena (UBT) has further heated up the political atmosphere by giving an open offer to Narottam Mishra to contest the elections.
Congress expressed confidence in Ghanshyam Singh
Congress has fielded senior leader and former MLA Ghanshyam Singh as its candidate from Datia seat. Ghanshyam Singh has been active in Datia politics for a long time and has been MLA thrice. He is also said to be related to the Datia royal family. He started his political career in 1993 by winning the Datia assembly seat. After this, he has faced both victory and defeat in different elections. Congress hopes that his experience will prove beneficial for the party in this by-election. After being declared the candidate, Ghanshyam Singh said that if the public gives him a chance, he will work on the development of the area, social harmony and taking all sections together.
Shiv Sena (UBT)’s offer to Narottam Mishra
On the other hand, Shiv Sena (UBT) of Maharashtra has also given a big statement regarding this election. Leaders of the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit said that if Dr. Narottam Mishra wishes, Shiv Sena (UBT) is ready to let him contest elections from Datia. The party says that if Mishra accepts this proposal, then many senior leaders including party chief Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya Thackeray will come to Madhya Pradesh and campaign in his favor. However, till now no official response has come from Dr. Narottam Mishra on this proposal.
BJP did this by changing its candidater
BJP has made it clear that there will be no change in the candidate declared for Datia seat. The party leadership has expressed confidence in the name of Ashutosh Tiwari and has started preparations for the elections. However, after the ticket was announced, supporters of Narottam Mishra also protested. Incidents like demonstrations, market closures and road jams were reported at many places. Despite this, the party leadership seems to be firm on its decision.
Why is by-election being held in Datia?
By-election is being held on Datia assembly seat because the assembly membership of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti had ended. The seat became vacant after his membership was canceled by the court following his conviction in an old fraud case. Now voting on this seat will be held on July 30, while the counting of votes will be done on August 3. This by-election of Datia is not limited to local politics only, but has become a big political battle of the state. All the major parties are in the fray with their own strategies and now the focus is on the next phase of the election campaign.
