Dehradun-saahstradhara cloud burst: Nature broke in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun on Monday night. There was a sudden cloudburst in the city’s famous tourist destination Sahastradhara, after which the strong current in the river destroyed everything. Many shops were swept away in this horrific incident, loss of millions and two people are said to be missing. The district administration avoided a lot of untoward by taking out the people in the night, but this incident is once again raising questions on disaster management in Uttarakhand.
Trains and destruction flowing like ‘toys’
The situation in Sahastradhara became very serious after cloudburst. Several shops along the river were swept away by the strong current. Due to heavy rains in IT Park Dehradun, many vehicles were seen flowing like toys on the road itself. On receiving the information of the incident, District Magistrate Savin Bansal immediately took over the command. He coordinated with various departments at night and sent rescue teams to the spot. SDRF, NDRF and Public Works Department teams immediately reached the spot and started relief work.
Big untoward due to quick action
The quick action of the district administration postponed a great untoward. On the instructions of the District Magistrate, SDM Kumkum Joshi reached the spot at night. The rescue team immediately rushed the local people to safe places. The search for both the missing persons continues on a war footing. In view of heavy rains, the administration has declared a holiday in all schools from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun. This step has been taken to ensure the safety of students. This incident shows how important weather forecasting and disaster management is in a hilly state like Uttarakhand. It will now be seen whether the administration makes even better preparations to deal with such incidents.
