Madhya Pradesh News: Preparations to implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Madhya Pradesh have taken a new turn. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav launched the official website of UCC MP on Friday. The objective of this initiative is to seek opinion and suggestions from the general public before finalizing the law, so as to ensure participation of all sections.
Launching the website, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that this platform will give people an opportunity to convey their ideas and suggestions directly to the government. He expressed confidence that through a transparent and participatory process, a balanced and widely acceptable Uniform Civil Code can be prepared as per the needs of the state.
The government has set the last date for sending suggestions as 15 June 2026, so that people get enough time to give their opinions. The purpose of the Uniform Civil Code is to replace separate personal laws based on religion with a uniform law that applies equally to all citizens in matters such as marriage, divorce, property, adoption and maintenance.
Madhya Pradesh is moving in this direction on the lines of Uttarakhand and Gujarat, where significant steps have already been taken to implement UCC. This initiative is in line with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s long-standing commitment to implement a Uniform Civil Code across the country under Article 44 of the Constitution.
Ranjana Prakash Desai, chairperson of the high level committee constituted on UCC and retired judge of the Supreme Court, participated in the program through virtual medium. This committee, constituted at the end of April 2026, has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a detailed draft of the UCC. Other members of the expert committee were also present during the website launch program. Justice Desai has earlier led similar processes in other states.
The Madhya Pradesh government has clarified that all the suggestions received through the portal will be seriously reviewed and will be included in the upcoming process of drafting the bill. This public consultation process is being considered an important step towards building consensus on such a sensitive and long-discussed issue.
