Uttarakhand News: The dream of high speed Namo Bharat Train (RRTS) from Modipuram in Meerut to Lakshmanjhula near Rishikesh is going to come true. With the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, an agreement has been reached between Uttarakhand, UP and National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to extend the existing network of RRTS trains from Meerut to Rishikesh. Survey is going to be done soon for the DPR of the project.

In the month of February this year, operation of high speed Namo Bharat train has started from Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been continuously making efforts for the demand of extending this high speed train from Modipuram to Rishikesh. In this sequence, he had recently met Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar and submitted a proposal. After this, it has been agreed to extend this train from Modipuram to Lakshmanjhula in Rishikesh. To speed up the project, Uttarakhand government has appointed Additional Secretary Reena Joshi as the nodal officer, similarly NCRTC has appointed its nodal officer. Uttar Pradesh government has also given consent to the project. After this, survey is going to start to prepare DPR of total 150 kilometer proposed track.

Train will pass through Har Ki Pauri

According to the proposed project, the new track will start from Modipuram station in Meerut, which will enter the border of Uttarakhand via Muzaffarnagar. After this, this track will reach Laxmanjhula, the last end of Rishikesh, via Har Ki Pauri in Roorkee, Haridwar. Its 72 km portion will fall in Uttar Pradesh and 78 km in Uttarakhand. With this, the pilgrims coming to Uttarakhand and the people of Uttarakhand going to Delhi will also get a new modern transport option. At present, it takes about five to six hours by road to reach Rishikesh from Delhi. After the start of Namo Bharat train (speed of 160 km/hour), this journey will be completed in just two and a half to three hours.

The extension of Namo Bharat train service from Meerut to Rishikesh will give a new direction to the connectivity of Uttarakhand. This will provide fast, safe and modern transportation facilities to pilgrims, tourists and local people. The state government is continuously coordinating with the Central Government, Uttar Pradesh Government and NCRTC to take forward this ambitious project. Our endeavor is to create new opportunities for development and employment through better rail and transport infrastructure in Uttarakhand.
