However, for Wednesday, orange alert has been issued in Kangra and Mandi districts, while yellow alert will remain in Chamba, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum rainfall of 117.5 mm was recorded in Mashobra in Shimla district in the last 24 hours. Apart from this, 106.4 mm rainfall was recorded in Naina Devi of Bilaspur, 90 mm in Nangal Dam of Una, 77 mm in Brahmani of Bilaspur, 74.2 mm in Kufri of Shimla, 66.5 mm in Shimla city and 57 mm in Kahu of Bilaspur. The department says that heavy rains may continue at many places for the next six days.
Life in the state has been affected due to continuous rains. About 150 roads are closed due to landslides and debris, whose restoration work is going on. Traffic has been affected in many areas and people have been appealed to travel only when necessary.
How is the weather in Shimla?
Due to heavy rains in Shimla, incidents of landslides and falling of trees have been reported at two places. Four trees fell on houses in the Old Barrier area of Tutikandi ward on Wednesday morning. This caused damage to the tin roofs of the houses. The family members came out of their homes in time, so there was no loss of life. Local people say that the land was becoming weak due to continuous leakage of water for a long time and complaints about this had been made earlier also. On the other hand, small stones are falling from the hill in front of Rajiv Bhawan i.e. Congress office near the lift. Traffic police have advised drivers to be cautious. Traffic is currently running normally on both sides of this route, but the administration is constantly monitoring the situation.
Loss in Kangra also
Relief and rescue operations are underway after the damage caused by cloudburst on Tuesday in Boh valley of Kangra district. 18 houses, nine cow sheds and a primary school were buried under debris in Rulehar, Bangar, Garhgun and Spada villages due to floods and landslides. Three women were injured and nine cattle died. The administration is busy taking the affected families to safe places and assessing the damage.
17 roads closed in Sirmaur
Intermittent rain continues in Sirmaur district also. 17 roads and 23 drinking water schemes are affected in the district. Educational institutions are reopening from today after being closed for two days. The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert in view of the weather.
On the other hand, due to continuous rains, landslides and road closure in Ani, Banjar and Nirmand sub-divisions of Kullu district, the district administration has ordered closure of all government and private schools, Anganwadi centres, colleges, ITIs and other educational institutions today. The administration says that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of students and employees. The Meteorological Department and the district administration have appealed to the people to stay away from rivers, streams and landslide prone areas and follow weather advisories.
