Gumla, May 26 (IANS). In the last 12 years, since his swearing in on May 26, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has implemented the mantra of ‘Nagarik Devo Bhava’ and has provided housing, water and better facilities to crores of poor people. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a prime example of these efforts, which is proving to be a boon for the poor, especially in Gumla district of Jharkhand.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a large number of permanent houses have been built in Gumla district. There is a wave of happiness among the beneficiary families. He congratulated Prime Minister Modi on completion of 12 years and said that in these years there has been unprecedented improvement in the standard of living of the poor. He told that Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has brought a big change in his life. Families who earlier lived in thatched or dilapidated houses are now living in pucca houses.

Meena Devi, a beneficiary, told IANS, “Earlier our house was made of tiles. During the rains, water used to drip from the roof, the entire house would get flooded. There was a lot of trouble. Now we have got the Prime Minister’s residence. There is no water dripping, no problem in the rains. We thank Prime Minister Modi ji very much.”

Another beneficiary Anita Devi said, “Our old house was made of tin, water was leaking at some places. Now we are living comfortably under the roof. There is no problem. I want Modi ji to remain the Prime Minister till 2035 and every poor should get housing.” Local people say that this scheme, started on the call of Prime Minister Modi, has provided permanent housing to thousands of poor families of the district.

Whereas earlier there used to be problems of leaking roofs and falling of walls during the rainy season, now people are living a safe and respectable life in pucca houses. The beneficiaries of the scheme said in one voice, “If such a Prime Minister stays in the country, no poor will have to worry about housing. Everyone will be able to get the facility of pucca housing.”
