Raipur/Bijapur, May 13 (IANS). Security forces in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh have dealt a huge blow to the logistics and financial backbone of the Naxalite movement after several important joint operations. Bijapur Police, District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Cobra and CRPF teams successfully located the hideouts of Naxalites, recovering huge amount of cash, lethal weapons and explosives.

The security personnel recovered Rs 65.52 lakh in cash as well as a cache of 32 sophisticated weapons, including light machine guns, self-loading rifles and carbines. This breakthrough is part of a comprehensive and sustained operation under which assets worth over Rs 20 crore have been recovered since the beginning of 2024, including a huge gold reserve worth about Rs 13 crore.

Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav said that the operation is inspired by the strategic objective of the Central and Chhattisgarh governments to declare Bijapur as a Naxal-free zone. The discovery of these secret hideouts was possible through an intensive intelligence network and the increased cooperation of local villagers, who provided vital information about the secret places hidden in the inaccessible areas of the National Park area and Kavargutta forests.

Apart from weapons the teams seized and safely destroyed 140 kg of ammonium nitrate and urea. These materials were used to make explosive devices. This action has severely disrupted the ability of Naxalites to obtain weapons and maintain supply chains, which is an important achievement in the broader effort to restore peace in the region. Data for the period 2025 to 2026 underlines the effectiveness of this sustained pressure, with a total of 461 weapons recovered from the district during this period alone.2

Since the beginning of 2014, security forces have killed 234 Maoists and assisted in the rehabilitation of more than 1,000, signaling another step towards stability and development. By destroying these strategic stores of cash and equipment, the joint forces have not only weakened the operational capability of the Naxalites but also strengthened the security apparatus in remote areas.
