Screams and sirens echoed on the roads of Rangareddy district on Monday when a head-on collision took place between a speeding truck and a bus. Expressing grief over the incident, PM Modi has announced an assistance amount of Rs 2 lakh to the families of each deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the injured.

24 lives ended in a moment

This heart-wrenching accident happened near Khanpur Gate of Chevella Mandal. It is being told that the truck was coming from the wrong side at high speed and directly collided with the TGRTC passenger bus. The collision was so strong that the front part of the bus was completely shattered. 24 people died in the accident, while more than 10 passengers were seriously injured. The number of deaths is expected to increase. It took hours to pull out many bodies. People nearby ran to help, but the scene was so horrifying that it gave goosebumps.

Chaos on the spot, relief team reached

As soon as information about the incident was received, police, ambulance and fire brigade teams reached the spot. The injured were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals, where the condition of many is still said to be critical. Officials said that investigation into the accident has been started. According to initial estimates, high speed and driver’s carelessness are the main reasons for this tragedy.

Minister expressed grief, gave instructions for relief

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed deep sorrow over the accident and said that this is a very sad moment for the state. He directed the administration to take immediate steps for the treatment of the injured and assistance to the families of the deceased.

PM Modi expressed grief

PM Modi has tweeted expressing grief over this incident. He wrote, “The death of people in the accident in Rangareddy district of Telangana is extremely sad. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families in this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An assistance amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the injured from PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund).’
