CID has arrested ‘Revolver Queen’ Pooja Biswas in West Bengal. Six pistols and 200 cartridges have been recovered from the jute bag. Its wires are connected from Munger in Bihar to Bangladesh.
A big inter-state arms smuggling gang has been exposed in West Bengal. The state CID and local police have arrested a woman, who is now being called the ‘Revolver Queen’ of Bengal, with a cache of weapons. The police have recovered several pistols and hundreds of cartridges from the jute bag of this woman, who looks like any common traveler. It is coming to light that the links of this case are connected from Munger in Bihar to Bangladesh.
How was the trap laid for ‘Revolver Rani’?
On Sunday morning, this woman was walking among the crowd of common travelers on Naihati-Ashoknagar road. This woman, wearing a cotton salwar suit and a scarf on her head, had a jute bag in one hand and the other bag was hanging on her shoulder. No one suspected him, but the CID and police teams were secretly keeping an eye on his every move. The woman boarded a local ‘Magic’ van. As soon as the van reached Junction No. 8 in Ashoknagar area of North 24 Parganas district, the police stopped it and from here the real face of the woman came in front of everyone.
A large cache of weapons was found in the bag
When the police searched the woman’s seemingly ordinary jute bags, they found a large cache of weapons. Police recovered from the bag-
6 semi-automatic pistols (of which four are 7mm and two are 9mm, with star logo on them) 12 magazines, 200 live cartridges of 7.6mm, Rs 12,000 in cash and two mobile phones.
Who is this ‘Revolver Queen’?
The name of this woman who was caught by the police is Pooja Biswas. She is a resident of Ward No. 12 of Habra Municipality. According to the police, Pooja is not new to arms smuggling, rather she works as a reliable ‘carrier’ i.e. weapons deliverer for big syndicates.
After divorce from her first husband and marriage of her daughter, Pooja has been involved in this illegal business for the last 5 years. In the year 2023 also, Duttpukur police had arrested him in almost similar circumstances from a passenger bus. After being released from jail, she immediately got involved in arms smuggling again.
According to CID chief Natarajan Ramesh Babu, smugglers always use female ‘carriers’ to dodge the police and avoid suspicion.
Connection from Munger to Bangladesh
Initial inquiries have indicated that this interstate network is also connected across the border (Bangladesh). Investigation has revealed that these weapons were brought from Munger in Bihar and they may have a connection with the Jamalpur Ordnance Factory. It is believed that these weapons were brought to West Bengal by road and then smuggled to Bangladesh through border areas like Bangaon. A train ticket to Jamalpur has also been found from Pooja, which has further strengthened the Bihar connection. CID is now working with Bihar Police and factory officials to trace the batch number.
The clothing businessman husband is also involved!
Investigation has also revealed that Pooja was doing this work in collaboration with her current husband Neelratan. Neelratan lives in Gopalnagar police station area and does clothes business there. Police believe that this clothing business is just a sham, under the guise of which illegal arms trade was being carried out. At present Neelratan is absconding and the police is actively searching for him. It is believed that his arrest may provide clues to the buyers of illegal weapons.
SIT formed to investigate the case
Following the seizure of this huge consignment of weapons amid the sensitive post-poll environment, the state CID has formed a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a DIG rank officer. The SIT is also investigating the real location of these weapons and whether they were to be used to promote organized crime or political violence in the border districts.
Meanwhile, this arrest is also being discussed a lot on social media. Local BJP leader Rakesh Singh lauded the arrest of ‘Revolver Rani’ on Ax, calling it a “major action by Bengal Police”. At present Pooja Biswas is in police custody and the scope of SIT investigation has spread from North 24 Parganas to the interstate borders.
