IPL New Rules: Before the end of IPL 2026, BCCI has taken a big decision and implemented new rules for players and match officials. The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has completely banned the use of smart sunglasses during the IPL. The board says that this decision has been taken to maintain the security and transparency of the tournament.
Will not be able to use in PMOA area
In the instructions issued by BCCI, it has been clearly stated that no player, support staff or match official will be able to use smart sunglasses in the PMOA i.e. Players and Match Officials Area. This area includes dressing rooms, players’ seating areas and areas related to match officials. The Board has acknowledged that activities such as data recording, audio or video transmission may be possible through smart devices, which may impact the confidentiality and anti-corruption rules of the tournament.
Action will be taken against those who break the rules
BCCI’s anti-corruption unit has adopted a strict stance in this matter. The board has made it clear that if any player or official is found violating this rule, action will be taken against him. However, it has not yet been made clear what steps will be taken as punishment. It is being told that the board has taken this decision in view of the continuously increasing use of new technologies in IPL. Smart sunglasses have features like camera, internet and recording, which are considered a threat from security point of view.
Rules have been strict in IPL before also
IPL is counted among the biggest cricket leagues in the world and strictness is always maintained regarding anti-corruption rules in it. Many rules are already in place, from players’ phone usage to dressing room activities. Now by banning smart sunglasses, BCCI has clearly indicated that any kind of technical negligence will not be tolerated in the league. After this decision, all franchises and players will have to follow the new rules.
