IPL Qualifier 1: The 19th season of the Indian Premier League has now reached its final stage. Qualifier-1 will be played on Tuesday, in which Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans will face each other. The team that wins this match will directly make it to the finals. But the biggest question in the minds of the fans is what will happen if rain interrupts the match?
What are the rules of Qualifier-1?
According to the playoff rules of IPL, the top-4 teams reach the playoffs. This season the top-4 includes RCB, GT, SRH and RR. The top-2 teams get two chances to reach the finals. This time RCB and GT are in the top-2. The team that wins Qualifier-1 will go straight to the finals, while the losing team will get a chance to play Qualifier-2.
What will happen if it rains?
Generally, the provision of reserve day for Qualifier-1 is not clearly decided. However, the rules also state that a reserve day can be kept if needed. Till now, reserve day has not been kept for most of the qualifiers and eliminator matches in IPL, whereas reserve day is present for the final.
If the match is canceled then who will go to the final?
If the match is not completed due to rain, then first efforts will be made to conduct a match of at least 5-5 overs. If even this is not possible and the match is cancelled, then only the team which is on top in the points table will go to the final.
Who benefits from net run rate?
Both RCB and GT have 18 points each, but in net run rate, RCB (+0.783) is ahead, while GT (+0.695) is behind. For this reason, if Qualifier-1 is canceled without any result, then Royal Challengers Bengaluru will directly reach the finals. Whereas Gujarat Titans will have to play Qualifier-2.
