Supreme Court puts interim stay on name plate case

The Supreme Court has put an interim stay on the order regarding name plates on restaurants and shops on the Kanwar Yatra route. A list of variety of food should be displayed outside the shops

During the hearing, the Supreme Court questioned whether the Kanwariyas expect that their food is being prepared by a particular category of owners or people? The bench said, ‘We deem it appropriate to put an interim stay on the government’s order. Restaurants, hotels or food vendors are required to display a list of the variety of food they serve, but they should not be forced to display the names of the owners or the employees working there.’

Earlier today, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Arun Govil expressed his support for the Uttar Pradesh government’s order. Govil said there was nothing wrong in displaying the names of shop owners. He argued that customers have the right to know where their food comes from.
