New Delhi, December 17 (IANS). Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) are located in 10 states of the country. An investment of Rs 1,46,846 crore is estimated in these projects and they are expected to generate approximately 1.80 lakh jobs. This information was given by the government on Wednesday.

Jitin Prasad, Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, told the Lok Sabha that so far 11 EMC projects and 2 Common Facility Center (CFC) projects have been approved. All these projects are spread over an area of 4,399.68 acres, with a total project cost of Rs 5,226.49 crore. Of this, Rs 2,492.74 crore is included as financial assistance from the Central Government.

Additionally, under the EMI 2.0 scheme, at least 10 per cent of the total salable or lettable area in each cluster has been earmarked for Ready Built Factory (RBF) sheds.

The ready built factory sheds being constructed under the sanctioned EMI 2.0 parks are currently in various stages of construction.

The Minister said that investment commitments worth Rs 1,13,000 crore have so far been received from 123 land allottees (producers) in the approved EMC. Of these, 9 units have started production, have invested Rs 12,569.69 crore and have provided employment to 13,680 people.

An independent impact assessment of the EMI 2.0 scheme was conducted by the National Institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises under the MSME Ministry.

The minister said the evaluation showed that the scheme has led to rapid development of electronics manufacturing infrastructure, improved supply chain, availability of ready-built factories and plug-and-play facilities, cheaper and better logistics and generation of large number of direct and indirect employment. Besides, the skill development of the people working in the cluster has also improved.

The government had announced the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) scheme in April 2020. The scheme aims to promote electronics manufacturing in the country by funding clusters, both greenfield and existing brownfield, to create world class electronics manufacturing facilities.
