Mumbai, May 22 (IANS). From Navi Mumbai International Airport to redevelopment of Dharavi, Adani Group is making major investments towards the overall economic development of Maharashtra. Industry veterans and experts said this here on Friday.
Speaking at the ‘Hindu Maharashtra Infrastructure Conclave 2026’ held here, Chintan Research Foundation (CRF) distinguished fellow Jamshed said Adani Group is also working in many other sectors like power and renewable energy and is contributing to the development of the state. This will also teach other states how mega projects can be made successful through private and public partnerships.
Dr. Mahendra P. Kalyankar, Chief Executive Officer, Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) said that work will also be done on skill development of residents under the Dharavi project.
He said, “Dharavi Experience Center will be set up before August 15. The master plan is ready. We are definitely moving forward with a developed Maharashtra and developed India by 2047.”
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said there should be overall development in Maharashtra, not just the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), but from Mumbai to Surajgarh and Gadchiroli.
“We got an opportunity to showcase the work we have done in the fields of infrastructure, roads, flyovers, metro, affordable housing, health, education and environment in this conclave,” he said.
He also outlined the vision of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project and emphasized on housing rights, dignity and the goal of making Mumbai slum-free. He also highlighted the plan to provide houses to all residents under the Comprehensive Housing Scheme.
Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) is a unique opportunity to transform the lives and ‘live-work’ conditions of Dharavi residents, with the aim of providing a higher quality of life with improved infrastructure and public amenities. Asia’s largest slum is now being reimagined as India’s most ambitious urban rehabilitation project.
The Dharavi Master Plan is based on three key principles – driving economic transformation through redevelopment, building strong ecology and infrastructure and developing an equity-based Dharavi.
Dharavi will be transformed into a highly transit-oriented development area with seamless multi-modal connectivity, including a new metro corridor passing through its centre. Bus feeder systems, dedicated infrastructure for non-motorized transport and improved road networks will strengthen last mile connectivity and promote foot mobility in all areas.
