Ahmedabad, June 8 (IANS). Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Monday said it has been awarded a 10-year maritime services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. With this achievement, the company has entered South America and further strengthened its presence in the international maritime services sector. Besides, this will also strengthen the growing energy relations between India and Argentina.
India’s largest integrated transport utility company said the contract was awarded to its step-down subsidiary Adani Harbor International FZCO through a consortium formed with Argentina’s Meridian Group, following a global competitive tender process conducted by Southern Energy SA.
This consortium of Adani Group and Meridian Group will provide marine services for the Southern Energy FLNG project. The project involves an investment commitment of approximately ₹70 million ($70 million).
The first phase of the project is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes (MT) of LNG per year, equivalent to approximately 28 LNG cargoes. With this it will become Argentina’s first operational LNG export project.
“This project reflects our growing capability to support large energy infrastructure projects in various regions of the world,” said Ashwini Gupta, Whole-Time Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), APSEZ.
He said the company has maritime operations in 12 countries and has a strong network of ports, LNG terminals, marine resources supporting national oil companies, refineries and offshore facilities. This has gained extensive experience of operating in complex marine environments.
He further said that together with local partners, the company is helping to develop reliable maritime networks, which will create new energy trade corridors and strengthen long-term supply security.
Under the agreement, the consortium will provide end-to-end maritime services including tugboat operations, offshore logistics, supply support and crew transfer services for LNG carrier vessels.
Argentina is fast emerging as a major LNG supplier, and has signed agreements to export up to 10 million tonnes of LNG per year to India from 2027.
Southern Energy’s FLNG project will play a key role in connecting global demand centers to Argentina’s growing LNG supply.
According to the company, four state-of-the-art tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel and one crew boat will be deployed to operate this project, which will help in smoothly operating the maritime services.
