AI and digital technology can give new strength to MSMEs, startups and exporters: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, July 6 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday said Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies can play an important role in empowering MSMEs, startups, exporters and local businesses. He said there is a need for stronger collaboration between the government and tech companies to accelerate innovation-led and tech-driven growth.

Goyal said he met the Google delegation, which was led by the company’s Vice President (Ads and Commerce) Vidhya Srinivasan and Google India Vice President and Country Manager Preeti Lobana. During this, the possibilities of widespread use of AI and digital technologies in key sectors of the economy were discussed.

Special emphasis was laid in the meeting that by adopting AI-based solutions, small businesses, startups and exporters can be made more competitive in the digital market and their growth can be given a new impetus.

Piyush Goyal said that the two sides discussed in detail topics like rapid adoption of AI, promotion of digital skilling, ease of market access and encouraging technology-based innovation.

Earlier on Monday, Piyush Goyal had said that the new Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) being entered into by India are giving new impetus to manufacturing and innovation in the country and creating new opportunities for the youth to compete at the global level.
