New Delhi, May 5 (IANS). Apple iPhone 17 has become the best-selling smartphone in the first quarter (January-March period) of this year. This information was given in the report released on Tuesday.
According to Counterpoint Research’s analysis, the iPhone 17 series continued its dominance in the market by taking the top three positions, while five models of Samsung’s Galaxy A series entered the top 10.
The top 10 smartphones captured 25 percent of global unit sales during the quarter, the best ever performance by the top 10 smartphones in any first quarter. This was made possible by strong demand for Apple’s latest lineup and increasing pressure on Android makers in the mass-market segment due to rising component costs.
“The iPhone 17 is outperforming its previous models due to key upgrades like higher base storage, better camera resolution and advanced display refresh rate, bringing it closer to the Pro variant,” said Harshit Rastogi, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research.
Rastogi further added, “The device recorded double-digit YoY growth in key markets such as China and the US, and nearly three-fold growth in South Korea during the quarter.”
At the same time, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro also gave tough competition with advanced camera, battery and design features.
Among Android devices, Samsung’s Galaxy A07 4G emerged as the best-selling smartphone, mainly due to its strong demand in emerging markets like the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. This model’s extended software and security support also increased its popularity among budget shoppers.
Q1 Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra missed the top 10 by a narrow margin, although its initial sales were better than its predecessor, supported by new features like a privacy display and AI upgrades, the report said.
“In response to changing market conditions, manufacturers are focusing more on premium portfolios, and prioritizing value rather than volume,” said Karan Chauhan, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research.
