Aviation stocks fell due to surge in crude oil, SpiceJet slipped more than 6.5 percent

Mumbai, March 9 (IANS). Due to the rise in crude oil, there was a big fall in aviation shares on Monday and shares of IndiGo and SpiceJet slipped by about 6.5 percent.

At the end of the trading session, shares of the country’s largest airline IndiGo, which is listed under the name Interglobal Aviation, fell 3.47 percent and closed at Rs 4,251.20. The stock touched a high of 4,255 and a low of 4,035 during the day.

At the same time, SpiceJet shares closed at Rs 13.07 with a fall of 6.64 percent. The stock touched a high of Rs 13.40 and a low of Rs 12.85 during the day.

Shares of FlySBS Aviation, listed in the SME category on the NSE, closed nearly 5 per cent lower at Rs 433.35.

In contrast, shares of private helicopter operator Global Vectra Helicopters closed higher at Rs 158 on the BSE.

Due to increasing tension in the Middle East, the price of Brent crude has seen a rise of up to 26 percent on Monday and it reached $ 119 per barrel. However, it is now softening and currently it is around $104 with an increase of 12.84 percent.

There was a big decline in the Indian stock market in Monday’s trading session. At the end of the day, Sensex closed at 77,566.16, down 1,352.74 points or 1.71 per cent, and Nifty closed at 24,028.05, down 422.40 points or 1.73 per cent.

The market decline was led by auto and banking stocks. Nifty Auto closed down by 4.10 per cent, Nifty PSU Bank by 3.97 per cent, Nifty Consumer Durable by 2.81 per cent, Nifty Private Bank by 2.78 per cent, Nifty Metal by 2.60 per cent, Nifty PSE by 2.39 per cent, Nifty Oil & Gas by 2.37 per cent and Nifty India Manufacturing by 2.36 per cent. Only Nifty IT closed with a gain of 0.08 percent.

Along with largecap, midcap and smallcap also declined. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was down 1,127.85 points or 1.97 per cent at 56,265.50 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was at 16,132.20, down 366.70 points or 2.22 per cent.
