If your phone’s battery does not last long, it does not mean that there is something wrong with the phone or the battery. Some apps are simply draining your phone’s battery. However, such apps will be removed soon. Google has decided to identify apps on Play Store that consume excessive battery power and will take action against them. There are also plans to add battery consumption warning tags on these apps.
Google took this decision
Google has issued new guidelines for app developers. Android apps now have to go through a new performance check before being listed on the Play Store. This check will also include a check named “Wake Lock”. Wake Lock wakes the phone even when the screen is off. This feature is useful for music playback and downloading files, but it consumes a lot of battery.
New rules will come into effect from March 1
Apps that use wake lock excessively without any reason will be in trouble from March 1, 2026. Google has said that it will take action against them and such apps will not be recommended to customers. It will also place a warning label at the bottom of the app stating that it consumes a lot of battery. Google wants developers to create apps that are more power efficient. It also wants to be transparent and tell users which apps can drain a phone’s battery quickly. Actually, many apps remain active in the background and keep fetching many types of data including location. Due to this, the phone’s battery drains quickly even when it is locked.
