New Delhi, February 9 (IANS). The government said on Monday that India has improved its position in the global ‘Network Readiness Index 2025’. In this report, India’s ranking has gone up by four places and now India has reached 45th position. Not only this, India has also been ahead of other countries of the world in many important indicators.
The report was released by the Portulence Institute, an independent, non-profit research and educational institute based in Washington, DC. In this report, digital and network related preparedness of 127 countries of the world has been assessed.
The Ministry of Communications said that India has not only improved its rank but its overall score has also increased. India’s score in the year 2024 was 53.63 out of 100, which increased to 54.43 in 2025. The ministry said that it is a big thing that India has stood first in many parameters.
The report ranks countries on four main grounds, which include technology, people, governance and its impact. A total of 53 different indicators have been studied under these four bases.
According to the report, India ranked first in areas such as annual investment in telecom services, scientific research papers related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), exports of IT and communication services and e-commerce law. Additionally, India ranked second in fiber internet connections, mobile internet usage within the country and international internet capacity. At the same time, India has been at third place in matters like size of domestic market and income inequality.
The Ministry of Communications said that India’s network preparedness is better than its income level. India ranks second in the list of low-middle income countries, which reflects its digital progress.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had recently said that India has the cheapest data available in the world and the data is also being used the most. He said that due to strong digital infrastructure, there are more than 120 crore mobile users in the country and 4G network is expected to reach every village by June.
Government telecom company BSNL has so far established 97,068 4G sites, out of which 93,511 sites are operational. BSNL is working on a plan to convert all its 4G towers to 5G in the coming few months.
With this, 5G services have been started in all the states and union territories of the country and currently these services are available in 99.9 percent of the districts of the country.
Telecom companies have installed a total of 5.08 lakh 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in rural and urban areas of the country, further strengthening India’s digital power.
