Bomb threat note found in Ahmedabad bound IndiGo flight, police starts investigation

Bengaluru, July 17 (IANS). There was panic among security agencies on Thursday evening after a false bomb threat was received on an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport to Ahmedabad. After a handwritten note was found in the toilet of the plane, the police have registered an FIR and started investigation.

According to police, the incident took place in Indigo flight 6E-6423, which was scheduled to depart for Ahmedabad at 8 pm on Thursday. About 25 minutes before takeoff, a handwritten note was found in the forward lavatory of the plane that read, “Don’t go. There’s a bomb! Please.”

Immediately after receiving the note, the airport administration and security agencies implemented standard security protocols. The aircraft was immediately stopped for inspection and thoroughly searched.

No suspicious object or explosive material was recovered from the aircraft during the entire search. After investigation it became clear that the bomb threat was false.

After the incident, IndiGo lodged a formal complaint with the airport police. The airline said the false threat affected flight operations and raised serious concerns about the safety of passengers and crew.

Based on the airline’s complaint, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR). Investigative agencies are trying to find out who kept this note in the plane and what was his motive behind it.

It is noteworthy that a similar incident had come to light last month also. In June, tissue paper with “bomb” written on it was found inside the toilet of an IndiGo flight from Lucknow to Delhi. At that time there were about 180 passengers on board the plane.

That flight, which took off at 10:45 am on June 12, was stopped even before takeoff. Security agencies had started emergency security procedures by parking the aircraft on the apron. Later investigation found no explosives there too and the threat was found to be false.
