New Delhi, June 24 (IANS). Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday that ‘BRICS Space Economy’ can become the next big area of global development. He appealed to the BRICS member countries to work together to open new opportunities for innovation, investment, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
Addressing the meeting of BRICS Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) held in Bengaluru, Dr. Singh said that BRICS countries have the size, scientific capability, technological strength and industrial resources with which they can become a major power in the rapidly growing global space economy.
He said, “The future space economy will not be made up of countries working in isolation. It will be shaped through partnerships, shared innovation and collective ambition. BRICS countries have the potential to become a strong pillar of this emerging global space ecosystem.”
The Union Minister said that India is committed to working with all BRICS partner countries to translate shared goals into real results.
He said that India will continuously increase cooperation to keep the space sector an effective medium of growth, strength, innovation, sustainable development and international cooperation.
The two-day meeting, organized by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) under India’s BRICS Chairmanship 2026, was attended by heads and senior officials of space agencies from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In the meeting, the progress of space cooperation among BRICS countries was reviewed and many important topics were discussed.
Issues such as space sustainability, space debris-free missions, strengthening the BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation (RSSC), enhancing participation of new BRICS member states and further discussion on the proposed BRICS Space Council were discussed in the meeting.
Dr. Singh further said that space technology has today become one of the most influential forces of economic transformation and social progress.
He said that with the help of space technology, sectors like communication networks, navigation systems, disaster management, agriculture, health services, education and environmental monitoring are being strengthened.
Referring to the growing role of BRICS, the Minister said that the grouping represents the world’s large population, economic potential, scientific expertise and technological resources.
He said that deeper cooperation among BRICS countries can create new opportunities for innovation, industrial partnership, technology transfer, investment and economic growth. Besides, it can also play an important role in meeting the common development needs of the member countries.
