New Delhi, June 16 (IANS). PIB on Tuesday termed the claim of vehicles’ insurance claims being rejected due to use of E20 fuel as fake. Also said that the motor vehicle insurance policy will remain completely valid even after the use of E20 fuel.
PIB Fact Check Unit under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on social media platform ‘X’ that some posts on social media are claiming that using E20 fuel can lead to rejection of vehicle insurance claims.
This claim is completely fake. Your motor vehicle insurance policy is still completely valid when using E20 fuel.
Along with this, PIB further said that before believing and sharing such claims, verify the information once from official sources.
Additionally, a recent report by KPMG in India states that the country’s ethanol blending program has reached a significant scale and the use of E20 fuel has now started across the country.
The report analyzes the opportunities and challenges that may arise as the sector moves beyond KE20. These include issues like availability of feedstock, supply chain capacity, infrastructure preparation and policy coordination.
The government is promoting the use of ethanol-blended petrol as part of its broader strategy to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, enhance energy security and promote environmental sustainability.
The government had launched E85 fuel at an IndianOil retail outlet on ‘World Environment Day 2026’ in June. Through this, the government is trying to increase the use of ethanol.
E85 fuel is currently available at 48 retail outlets run by state-owned oil marketing companies.
The government plans to make it available at 500 outlets by December 2026 and around 5,000 outlets by December 2027.
