In view of the increasing cases of cyber fraud across the country, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to launch a new AI chatbot named ‘Abhay’. This chatbot will be launched on April 20, with the aim of helping people identify fraudulent notices and save them from scams like ‘digital arrest’.
On which occasion will it be launched?
According to media reports, Surya Kant will launch this special initiative during the DP Kohli Memorial Lecture organized at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi. This event is organized in the memory of Dharamnath Prasad Kohli, the first director of CBI.
What will ‘Abhay’ chatbot do?
This AI-based chatbot will help common citizens find out whether any notice they receive is genuine or fake. Nowadays, fraudsters impersonating government agencies send fake documents, scare people and extort money from them. The aim of ‘Abhay’ is to remove this fear, so that people can get the correct information without any panic and protect themselves from fraud.
How does the ‘Digital Arrest’ scam work?
At present, cyber criminals are targeting people very cleverly. They send fraudulent notices via email or social media, and use government seals and legalese to make them appear genuine. The victim is then told that his name has come up in a major crime, such as money laundering or drug related cases. By creating an atmosphere of fear, they engage the victim over video calls and make them believe that they are under ‘digital arrest’. The victim is then pressured to transfer the money immediately, in the false belief that doing so will avert their actual arrest.
Increasing cyber fraud and huge economic losses
According to reports, such cyber fraud has so far caused an economic loss of about ₹54,000 crore across the country. This figure shows how rapidly cyber crime is growing, and how desperately new technological solutions are needed to combat it.
How will ‘Abhay’ help you?
Tools like ‘Abhay’ will play an important role in spreading awareness among the people, and will also provide instant and accurate information to the people. This will help in eliminating the environment of fear and confusion created by fraudsters. The main function of ‘Abhay’ chatbot is to identify fraudulent notices and messages. If a person receives a suspicious notice, he can use this system to verify its authenticity. Using AI technology, this chatbot analyzes the language, formatting, and other elements of a notice to determine whether it is genuine or fake. This ensures that people get the right information quickly, preventing them from taking any rash or wrong actions out of panic.
**The biggest objective is to eliminate fear
The biggest weapon of cyber fraudsters is the fear and confusion of their victims. By using legal jargon, official seals and strong language, they create an environment where the person receiving the notice becomes so nervous that he is unable to think clearly or take an informed decision. The aim of ‘Abhay’ is to eliminate this fear. This will help users stay calm and take right decisions, thereby avoiding falling victim to any kind of fraud.
**How will this system work?**
This chatbot will work like a digital assistant. As soon as a user uploads a notice or message on the platform, this system will scan it and check its authenticity. Additionally, it will also provide the user with important advice—such as what immediate steps to take or who to contact. Thus, the system not only facilitates identification but also provides practical guidance.
