Digital payments in the country, or rather, transactions are changing daily. The government and its institutions are offering new facilities to benefit common users and ensure safe payment and transactions. Now, in India, payment can be made using UPI light feature through wearable smartglasses. Users will just have to scan a QR code and give a voice command. The special thing is that neither a mobile phone nor any pin is needed for this. Let us tell about the nuances of this facility declared by the government.

No need for mobile or pin
The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has said that payment can be made using UPI light facility through wearable smartglasses. According to the organization, neither a mobile phone nor PIN number is needed for this facility. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor T. Rabi Shankar announced the launch of this new digital payment facility at Global Fintech Fest 2025. The UPI light has been developed specifically for small-value, recurring payments, with minimal dependence on the mainstream banking system.

NPCI has released a video that stated that paying from UPI lights on smart glass is as comfortable as “Watch, Speak and Pay”. This feature is targeted for daily payments such as retail, food and transport and makes digital payments more convenient and comfortable. The NPCI said that this initiative is the first expansion of UPI in the wearing environment and is considered an important step towards “uninterrupted, spontaneous payment”.

Core banking system reduce pressure
This will also benefit banks and payment service providers as non-CBS wallet transactions will reduce pressure on core banking system. The NPCI said that UPI light payment through weeked smartglass would be an important initiative towards establishing India as a leader in global digital payment innovation. NPCI, who operates retail payment and disposal systems in the country, also owns UPI.

Users will get the benefit of these benefits:
Biometric Pin Reset – If someone forgets his UPI PIN, it can now be reserved only through fingerprint or facial authentication.

Fingerprint Payment – Now, instead of inserting PIN code while paying UPI, you can authorize the payment using fingerprint or facial scanning. This will make the payment even easier.

This will eliminate the problem of forgetting the card or OTP. Those who do not have a card will also be able to easily use UPI.
