Elon Musk’s social media platform This means that image editing on Grok will no longer be available for free on X. The company took this step after the problems it faced following the “bikini image” trend. Grok was allowing users to edit images and make people take off their clothes virtually, due to which several governments including India and UK had sent notices to the company.
What was the matter?
Grok can be tagged directly to X, after which it responds based on the prompt. It also used to edit the uploaded photos. Through this feature, people were editing photos of people on social media and removing their clothes. This trend received a lot of criticism, and even Elon Musk had to clarify Grok’s role in it. The Indian government took a tough stand and sought clarification from the company, while in the UK there was a demand to ban it completely.
What has changed now?
X has now said that only paid subscribers, i.e. users with a blue tick, can edit images on Grok. This means that only verified paid accounts can use Grok for image editing, as their names and payment details are stored with the company. However, this does not mean that users will not be able to edit images for free on Grok. They can edit images through Grok’s app or website as before. Information about the technical security measures implemented there is not yet available.
Indian government also took a tough stance
The Indian government also took a strict stance regarding the Grok AI bikini trend. The government said that such content will not be tolerated in India and the company will have to immediately remove such content from its platform. The government did not accept X’s explanation and said the company would have to explain what steps it was taking to prevent such trends in future.
