Abu Dhabi, May 17 (IANS). A fire broke out at the premises of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant located in the Al Dhafra region of the United Arab Emirates following a drone attack on Sunday. However, there is no report of anyone being injured.
The fire broke out in an electrical generator located on the outskirts of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, which was caused by a drone attack, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said on Friday. This fire occurred outside the inner perimeter of the plant.
The Federal Nuclear Regulatory Authority (FANR) also confirmed that the fire had no impact on the safety of the plant or its critical systems and that all units were operating normally. All necessary precautionary measures have been taken and people have been appealed to take information only from official sources and avoid rumours.
The statement did not provide any information about the source of the drone attack.
On May 5, the UAE said that some of its territories were attacked by missiles and drones launched from Iran, but Iran’s military command denied the allegation.
Iranian officials had also rejected UAE’s allegations that it had attacked Iran. He had said that UAE should not fall into the trap of any strategy of America and Israel.
On April 3, the UAE Defense Ministry said that its air defense system had intercepted 18 ballistic missiles, 4 cruise missiles and 47 drones, which were launched by Iran.
According to the ministry, so far a total of 475 ballistic missiles, 23 cruise missiles and 2,085 drones have been intercepted by the air defense system.
