Internet facility at 6100 stations
RailTel, one of India’s largest neutral telecom infrastructure provider under the Ministry of Railways, has said that free high-speed Wi-Fi internet facility is now available at 6100 railway stations across the country. With the introduction of Wi-Fi facility in Lucknow Division of Northern Railway at Uberni Railway Station in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh, the achievement of 6100 stations with Wi-Fi coverage has been achieved today. Out of these 6100 railway stations, more than 5000 stations are in rural areas, providing Wi-Fi facility at many remote stations across the country like many stations in North East region and all 15 stations in Kashmir Valley.
How to Use Free Wi-Fi Service at Train Stations
RailWire Wi-Fi at Railway Stations is available to any user:
1. To connect to Wi-Fi, passengers need to scan the Wi-Fi options and select ‘RailWire’.
2. Once the browser takes the user to the Railwire portal, it will ask for a mobile number to which a One Time Password (OTP) will be sent.
3. Once connected, the Wi-Fi connection will last for 30 minutes. This helps rail passengers to stay connected and updated with information.
4. Wi-Fi runs at 1 Mbps speed and is ‘free’ for 30 minutes. To use Wi-Fi facility at high speed for more than 30 minutes, users will have to choose a higher speed plan by paying a nominal fee. The plans start from Rs 10 per day and in this plan 5 GB internet is available with 34 Mbps speed. You can use many payment options like net banking, wallet, credit card to buy the plan online.
