Google has decided to block third-party call recording apps on the Play Store. This action will start from May 11. These changes were first reported by a Reddit user and then by 9to5Google. According to the report, due to the new policy update, Android’s Accessibility API, which is used by the developers, has been banned. Through this, developers used to enable remote call recording in their app. Google has banned this.
This decision of Google will have a direct impact on apps like Truecaller and now phone calls will not be able to be recorded through them. That is, if your phone does not have the feature of call recording by default, then it can be a little difficult for you. Earlier, Google had stopped call recording with Android 6. Then developers were barred from using the microphone for voice recording in Android 10. Since then, he started recording calls through the Accessibility API.

According to the new policy, Google has said, “The Accessibility API is not designed for remote call audio recording.” The company also clarified that the new policy was only for third-party apps on the Play Store. Because the dialer apps that come in the phone do not need access to the Accessibility API for call recording.

Google hasn’t clarified whether they will remove third-party call recording apps already on the Play Store, but they have said they will lose the recording feature. Truecaller, the popular caller ID app for Android, has announced that it will be discontinuing its free, call-recording feature on May 11.
