Google has started rolling out ‘Thinking Levels’ across its different Gemini AI models, across multiple platforms. These also include its Android and iOS apps. A company executive announced this development. These new modes are now available to all paid and free users in select markets across the world including India. The Gemini app now offers three Thinking Levels, based on the Gemini 3.5 and 3.1 series models. The lineup includes a new ‘Extended Thinking’ mode, which lets Gemini take a little longer before responding to users. According to reports, this is expected to significantly improve the quality of responses provided by the Gemini app.
Gemini’s Thinking Level upgrade now available on all platforms
On Wednesday, Josh Woodward, VP of Gemini and AI Studios at Google, announced in a post on X that the Mountain View-based tech giant has started rolling out Thinking Levels for browser, iOS and Android versions of the Gemini app. These new Thinking Modes are available for Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite, Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro models.
It has been confirmed that Gemini’s Thinking Levels is available to all paid and free users in India. All three Gemini models come with two standard thinking levels. However, in a video shared by a Google executive, a third Thinking Level — dubbed ‘Deep Think’ — was also shown in the Gemini 3.1 Pro model. Google claims that this mode provides the most parallel reasoning capabilities. The ‘Deep Think’ mode, which was originally announced on February 12 this year, is currently only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers.
Meanwhile, Google says its ‘standard’ Thinking Level is capable of answering ‘most questions’. On the other hand, according to Google, the new ‘Extended Thinking’ mode is best suited for ‘solving complex problems’. As the name suggests, with Extended Thinking, Gemini AI will take a little longer than usual to produce results. According to a report by Android Authority, the new ‘Extended Thinking’ feature in Gemini is expected to provide better answers and deeper analysis (though there are no guarantees). The update comes days after the tech giant’s annual developer conference, Google I/O 2026. During the keynote, the company introduced several new updates to the Gemini app, including the new Gemini 3.5 series. The first model of this new lineup – Gemini 3.5 Flash – is available now across all platforms. However, the company is planning to introduce Gemini 3.5 Pro later this month, which will replace the existing Gemini 3.1 Pro model.
