Government inaugurates Maharashtra's first modern 'future-ready' post office, customers will get better facilities

New Delhi, May 9 (IANS). The renovated Andheri Railway Station (RS) post office was inaugurated as a ‘future-ready’ post office under the ‘Jan Seva Connect’ initiative, an official statement said on Saturday.

According to the Ministry of Communications, this new and modern post office has facilities like better infrastructure, modern interior, better facilities for customers, digital services, faster service system and new branding.

‘Jan Seva Connect’ is a major modernization plan of India Post, which aims to transform post offices into community service centers equipped with easy, fast and digital facilities.

Under this initiative, it has been proposed to modernize about 2,000 post offices in Maharashtra.

Andheri RS Post Office is among the 40 post offices which have been selected as ‘Proof of Concept’ in 17 states of the country. This is the first post office in Maharashtra and the second post office in the country, which has been started under this initiative.

This post office was inaugurated by Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Scindia said that this initiative is a major step towards creating a modern, future-proof and citizen-centric postal system under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At the same time, Fadnavis said that India Post is playing an important role in connecting people and providing services to the last person.

With a network of more than 1.65 lakh post offices across the country, India Post is playing a vital role in financial inclusion and delivery of public services.

The department has recorded a growth of 16 percent in gross postal revenue during the year 2025-26, which shows the impact of its modernization efforts.

According to the statement, the renovation of Andheri RS Post Office, established in 1932, is part of India Post’s plan to transform traditional post offices into modern, customer-centric and technology-based service centres.

This project has been completed in collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
