Government will install sign boards with QR code for ease of transport on national highways

New Delhi, 3 October (IANS). The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will put up a sign board with project information in different parts of the National Highways (NHAI) National Highways with ‘Quick Responses (QR) code’ to ease the National Highway users. This information was given by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in an official statement on Friday.

With this move of the government, passengers traveling on the national highway will be able to get special information related to the project and emergency helpline numbers.

According to the statement of the ministry, there will be information related to the project on the Vertical QR Code Sign Board, in which national highway number, highway chenage, project length, construction and maintenance time, highway patrolling, toll manager, project manager, resident engineer, emergency helpline 1033, NHAI Field Office’s Contact Number and NHAI Field Office’s Content Number and nearby Petrol Pamps. There will be information about toilets, police stations, restaurants, toll plaza distance, parking for trucks, puncture fix shop and vehicle service station/e-beaching station etc.

Apart from this, for the convenience of national highway users for better visibility, the QR code sign board will be installed by roadside rest areas, toll plaza, truck la-bye, starting/ending places and signs of highway.

The Ministry said that the QR Code Sign Board will not only help improve road safety through better access to emergency and local information, but will also help users’ experience and awareness about national highways across the country.

Meanwhile, NHAI hopes that if the road assets identified by the authority are given timely montization, it will get Rs 35,000-40,000 crore in FY 2026. It is based on an average assessment of 0.62 times the 10 approved toll-operate-transfer (TOT) package in the last three years.

According to a recent report by the rating agency ICRA, “This will be much better than a montage of Rs 24,399 crore of FY25. In addition, it will be more than the bajes of Rs 30,000 crore for FY 2026.”

From the financial year 2023, HHAI has started publishing an annual list of properties identified for monetization.
