Hyderabad, November 9 (IANS) People in Hyderabad Commissionerate area are losing an average of Rs 1 crore every day to cyber crimes. This information was given by Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Sunday.
Cyber criminals are committing fraud by taking advantage of people’s greed and fear. Sajjanar and DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy together formally launched the cyber crime awareness campaign “Jagruk Hyderabad-Safe Hyderabad”. During this, ‘Cyber Singha’ logo and QR code were also launched and badges were distributed to the volunteers.
DGP Shivdhar Reddy said that cyber crimes can be stopped only through awareness. In view of the continuous increase in such crimes in the last decade, it has been decided to conduct operations on a war footing across Telangana.
He said that cyber crimes have now become a serious social problem. Through phone calls, social media and online interactions, criminals are easily targeting people by obtaining information like their wealth, location and age. Women, elderly people and housewives are becoming the main victims of these crimes, as criminals are threatening and duping them during their alone time.
Police said that special measures have been taken to reduce the number of cyber crimes this year and ‘cyber patrolling’ is also continuing. He appealed to the youth, retired persons and eminent people of the society to join this campaign and make people aware. He said that if there is a ‘Cyber Simba’ in every house, then the entire society can be safe.
Commissioner Sajjanar advised people not to trust any suspicious call, link or app, not to share OTP, password or banking details with anyone, use strong passwords and avoid sharing personal information on social media with unknown people.
He said that if you become a victim of cyber fraud, immediately call 1930 and lodge a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal.
