Increase in H-1B visa fees can affect America's innovation ecosystem and job economy: NASSCOM

New Delhi, 20 September (IANS). NASSCOM said on Saturday that an increase in H-1B visa fees by the US administration may affect the US’s Innovation Ecosystem and comprehensive job economy.

Reacting to the new announcement of the White House, which levied an annual fee of $ 1 million on H-1B visa applications signed by US President Donald Trump and as part of the widespread improvement of the skilled worker program, Nascom said it is also a matter of concern.

The industry organization said, “One day’s deadline creates a lot of uncertainty among businesses, professionals and students around the world. This level of policy changes should be implemented with proper transition period, so that the organization and individuals can effectively plan and reduce the disruption.”

NASCOM said that they are reviewing the nuances of the order.

According to NAScom, “The new decision taken for H-1B visas will also have an impact on Indian citizens who work on this visa in global and Indian companies. India’s technology service companies will also be affected as business continuity will be interrupted for onshore projects and required for additional costs. Companies will work together to adopt and manage the changes.”

However, it is also important to note that India and India -focused companies have continuously reduced their dependence on these visas by increasing local hiring in recent years.

NAScom argued, “These companies follow all necessary governance and compliance in the US for H-1B visa processes, pay the prevailing salary and contribute to the local economy and innovation participation with academics and startups. H-1B workers are not threatened by the national security of America in any way.”

NASCOM has consistently emphasized that high-skill talent is important to pursue innovation, competition and development in the US economy.

This is especially important when progress in AI and other state -of -the -art technology defines global competition capacity. High-Scal Talent will be important to maintain America’s innovation leadership and long-term economic power.

The industry organization further said that development is going on, we will closely monitor it, will interact with the stakeholders associated with the industry on possible results and try to get information about the discretionary exemption process given by the DHS secretary.
