New Delhi, July 16 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday met Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Finland Rikka Purra and discussed strengthening economic and financial cooperation between the two countries, enhancing trade and investment and expanding partnership in digitalization and emerging sectors.
During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed the possibilities of further deepening cooperation between India and Finland under the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Piyush Goyal has reached Finland after a successful visit to Belgium and Spain. During this, he also held an important meeting with Finland’s Economic Affairs Minister Sakari Puisto.
While giving information on social media platform
He said that the meeting also discussed increasing cooperation in future areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), 6G, Quantum Technology, Semiconductor, Space and Sustainability. It was also discussed how India-EU FTA can give new impetus to trade and investment between the two countries.
The main objective of the Finland visit is to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as innovation, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital technology and industrial research.
During the visit, Piyush Goyal is also going to participate in the India-Finland Business Roundtable organized with leading companies of Finland. Finnish companies related to digitalization, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and circular economy will participate in this meeting.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be signed to strengthen institutional cooperation between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Business Finland.
Piyush Goyal will also visit several leading companies and innovation institutions in Finland, including Nokia Corporation, VTT Research Centre, Kone Corporation and Kemppi Group. During this, possibilities of cooperation in the areas of telecom infrastructure, 6G research, smart mobility, advanced manufacturing, industrial machinery, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, frontier technology, sustainable mobility, industrial innovation and investment will be discussed.
The visit comes at a time when both sides are actively working towards further strengthening the economic cooperation between India and the European Union and early implementation of the India-EU FTA.
The government believes that this visit will give new impetus to India’s economic partnership with Europe. Also, it will play an important role in increasing trade and investment, strengthening cooperation in emerging technologies, clean energy, innovation and advanced manufacturing, enhancing partnerships between industry and innovation ecosystem and establishing India as a trusted global partner in the field of innovation, manufacturing and sustainability.
