New Delhi, October 11 (IANS). According to information provided by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and Electronics & Information Technology Jitin Prasad participated in the proceedings of the first day of the G-20 Trade and Investment Ministers Meeting (TIMM) in Gwebera.
He participated in an informal discussion on Global Trade Organization (WTO) issues and held bilateral meetings with counterparts from member countries.
In his bilateral meeting with Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition of South Africa, both sides discussed strengthening trade and technology partnerships, value chain links and investment opportunities.
According to the ministry, during the meeting with the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, both sides committed to strengthening trade relations. Also, reviewed ways to promote inclusive growth through innovation, logistics efficiency and sustainable partnerships, including support mechanisms for MSMEs.
According to information provided by the ministry, during talks with Koga Yuichiro, Minister of State for Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, strategic trade relations and innovation-based industrial cooperation were discussed. In this discussion, emphasis was laid on strong supply chain and advanced manufacturing.
Apart from this, Union Minister Jitin Prasad also met Liz Lloyd, UK Digital Economy Minister to enhance India-UK trade and cooperation in digital economy.
In India’s talks with the Republic of Korea, both sides agreed to explore joint initiatives in electronics, electric vehicle components and trusted digital supply chains.
In the discussion with Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Yeo Han-koo, special attention was paid to cooperation in manufacturing, digital technology and clean technology.
Further, according to the ministry, during the discussion on the Global Trade Organisation, Union Minister Prasad stressed the commitment towards a rules-based, transparent and inclusive multilateral trading system based on the MFN principle and non-discrimination.
The Minister of State emphasized the development-focused reform agenda and reaffirmed meaningful and special treatment linked to capacity gaps and development needs.
