New Delhi, January 25 (IANS). Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said on Sunday that India is moving towards the target of more than 2 crore Lakhpati Didis. He honored over 400 Lakhpati Didis, PMAY-G beneficiaries and Self Help Group (SHG) leaders in recognition of their leadership and contribution in strengthening rural livelihoods, community institutions and inclusive growth with the aim of realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047.
In a program, Union Minister Chauhan reiterated that Republic Day is a celebration of the inspirational journeys of the public and the Lakhpati Didis of self-help groups.
She welcomed the SHG women from across the country and appreciated their confidence, leadership and efforts in empowering other women.
He said that a prosperous nation is built on prosperous women. He emphasized on the transformative role of DAY-NRLM in enabling access to credit, livelihoods and collective empowerment.
The minister stressed the need for gender equality, social change and challenging discriminatory norms, and cited initiatives such as “Laadli Lakshmi Yojana” and “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”.
She emphasized that today women are not only beneficiaries but also important contributors to the economy, as one in four small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are run by women.
The Minister also underlined the role of DAY-NRLM in establishing market linkages through various means including popular e-commerce platforms and pointed out that rural women are increasingly participating in value chains and using digital tools to connect with markets.
