Mumbai, June 3 (IANS). The proposed India-US trade deal is 99 percent complete and some remaining issues are being resolved. This statement was given by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore on Wednesday.
Also said that both the countries are excited to finalize the interim bilateral trade agreement.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Cities India 2026 conference, Gore said officials from both sides are actively negotiating and are committed to completing the agreement. He further described the bilateral trade agreement as beneficial for both the parties.
He said, “This morning I met the US delegation from Washington DC. Our deputy trade negotiator, who has been holding discussions in Delhi for several days, is present here with a large team.”
“We are very optimistic about the agreement. We have reached 99 percent and the remaining one percent is in the works,” Gore told reporters.
He further said that as the talks enter the final phase, the delegation will return to Delhi on Wednesday to meet Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
“The delegation is meeting officials from the Commerce Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry, and we will return to Delhi tomorrow morning to meet Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal,” he said.
On the fast pace of bilateral trade talks between the two countries, Gore said that the negotiations on the proposed India-US trade agreement have been going on for about one and a half years, while the EU’s trade agreement with India took about 19 years.
“Both the United States and India are like-minded partners and are committed to finalizing the agreement. We believe it will be beneficial to both countries, and we are very excited about its prospects,” he said.
