India’s pace in green energy fast, country becomes world’s second largest solar market: Experts

New Delhi, April 29 (IANS). In the ‘Resilient Futures Summit 2026’ held in the national capital, global experts including the country praised India’s rapidly growing economy and its strong hold in the green energy sector.

Speaking to news agency IANS, International Solar Alliance (ISA) Director General Ashish Khanna said that India has become the world’s second largest solar market in 2025, where about 50 gigawatts of new solar capacity has been added.

He informed that PM-KUSUM is the world’s largest agricultural solarization scheme, while PM Surya Ghar Yojana is progressing rapidly. India is trying to share these successful experiences with other countries including Africa. Now the focus is also increasing on AI and digitalization, which will further strengthen the energy sector.

Khanna further said that the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been very visionary. He had set a target of 1,000 gigawatt and 1 trillion dollars in 2015, which the world has started achieving rapidly. It is clear from this that the International Solar Alliance was established at the right time.

Apart from this, Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University said that Adani Green Energy initiative is extremely important for India. It is working on a large scale keeping the future in mind, which is a positive sign not only for India but for the entire world.

Along with this, Michael Steidl, South Asia Head of the European Investment Bank, while talking to IANS, said that India is the fastest growing large economy in the world. He said that India is moving rapidly towards becoming a developed country by 2047.

He further said that Europe sees India as a strong strategic partner. In the coming time, new opportunities for trade and investment will open between the two through Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Europe’s technology and innovation capabilities, combined with India’s manufacturing strength, can form the basis of a great partnership.

Speaking to IANS, TDK Sensei CEO Sandeep Pandya said that this summit shows how AI, data center and productivity are impacting the energy sector and society. In India, the government and corporate sector are together emphasizing on sustainable energy, so that future energy needs can be met.

He said that work is being done rapidly on solar, wind and other renewable energy sources in India. India can achieve great success in this field due to government support, large land and increasing demand. India is among the fastest growing economies of the world and may soon overtake Japan.
