New Delhi, April 23 (IANS). Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that the renewable energy and electric mobility (EV) sectors in India will create large-scale employment opportunities in the coming years, as the country is rapidly moving towards a green economy.
In a program organized at Jamia Millia Islamia on the occasion of Earth Day, he said that sectors like renewable energy, electric vehicles, green fuel and circular economy will become big sources of employment for the youth.
“Green jobs and green entrepreneurship will become the biggest forces of the future green economy, creating massive job opportunities for the youth,” he said.
The minister said that moving towards a low-carbon economy will not only increase employment, but will also strengthen India’s sustainable growth rate.
He said that many schemes of the government are working in this direction, like the National Green Hydrogen Mission, in which an investment of more than Rs 19,000 crore is being made. This scheme will help industries like steel and cement move towards clean energy.
He also informed that new technologies are developing rapidly, creating new opportunities in the green sector. For example, now traditional vehicles are being converted into electric vehicles, making this technology cheaper and easier to access.
The minister said that there are good employment opportunities in sectors like solar manufacturing, battery production, power grid management and biofuels. Apart from this, work like converting used cooking oil into biofuel is also providing new business opportunities.
He said that ocean energy is currently being used very little, but in future it can become a big source of energy by combining with solar and wind energy.
On energy security, he said that India is also increasing nuclear power and is also giving opportunities to private companies in areas like space and nuclear energy, which will increase investment and innovation.
He also mentioned the Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) fund, which has been created to promote startups and new ideas.
On the issue of climate change, he said India is well positioned to lead the green transition in the world with the vision of ‘Lifestyle for Environment (LIFE)’.
He further appealed to the students and youth to embrace the opportunities related to sustainability, because future progress will depend on innovation, new thinking and right decisions.
