LPG supply continues smoothly, adequate stock available: IOCL

New Delhi, April 8 (IANS). Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on Wednesday said that LPG supply is running smoothly across the country and adequate stock is available. Also, efforts are being made round the clock to ensure uninterrupted availability of cylinders for households.

In a post on social media platform X, IOCL appealed to customers to remain calm and avoid unnecessary bookings. The company assured that sufficient cylinders are easily available and the distribution system is also working properly.

IOCL said that LPG supply is smooth and adequate stock is available. Indian Oil is working day and night to ensure easy delivery of cylinders to every home. Please remain calm and avoid unnecessary booking.

This assurance has been given at a time when the government is continuously taking steps to improve the supply of LPG to both domestic and industrial customers.

Earlier in the day, the central government announced that the commercial LPG limit has been increased to 70 per cent of the pre-March 2026 bulk consumption level. Now many industrial sectors will benefit from this increased limit, including pharma, food, polymer, agriculture, packaging, paint, steel and glass industries.

However, according to an official statement, this increased share will be subject to the overall regional limit of 0.2 thousand metric tonnes per day. Under this share, industries seeking bulk LPG will also have to comply with the conditions of registering with oil marketing companies and applying for piped natural gas (PNG) connections from city gas distribution (CGD) entities.

However, exemptions are given to units where LPG is an essential raw material in the manufacturing process, or where it is used for a specific purpose that cannot be replaced by natural gas. Meanwhile, supplies for weaker sections have also increased. The government has doubled the average daily supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders; These cylinders are generally used by migrant labourers.

While on an average 77,000 cylinders were sold in February, now more than 1.1 lakh such cylinders are being sold every day. Since March 23, around 8.9 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been sold across the country.

Additionally, commercial LPG availability also remains strong. Around 93,085 metric tonnes of LPG has been sold since March 14.
