New Delhi, May 1 (IANS). The country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India said on Friday that it recorded its highest ever sales in the month of April. This signals a strong start to the new financial year. The sales were driven by good demand across segments, especially small cars and SUVs.
The company sold a total of 2,39,646 vehicles in April, which is 33.29 percent more than 1,79,791 units in the same month last year.
Domestic sales also reached a record high at 1,91,122 units as against 1,42,053 units a year ago. Earlier, a record of 1,82,165 units was set in December 2025, which has now been crossed.
The highest growth was seen in the entry-level segment. The mini car category, which includes models like Alto and S-Presso, saw sales rise to 16,066 units from 6,332 units in April last year.
The compact segment, which includes popular models like Baleno, Swift, DZire and WagonR, also performed well. Sales of this segment increased to 80,659 units, compared to 61,912 units last year.
There was good demand in the utility vehicle (SUV) segment of the company also. Sales of models like Brezza, Ertiga, FrontX and Grand Vitara increased to 77,892 units from 59,022 units last year.
At the same time, sales of light commercial vehicle ‘Super Carry’ remained almost stable and stood at 3,418 units, which was 3,349 units in April last year.
Exports also contributed significantly to the overall growth. Exports increased to 40,054 units in April, from 27,911 units a year ago.
Earlier this month, the company had said that it has achieved the highest ever annual production of 23.4 lakh units in the financial year 2025-26.
With this achievement, Maruti Suzuki India has become the first auto company in the country to create such a huge production record in passenger vehicles.
