Guwahati, November 3 (IANS). Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia participated in the India-France North Eastern Investment Forum here on Monday.
During his address, he said that the North-East is rapidly emerging as a new area of India-France cooperation.
The Union Minister described the forum as ‘a bridge between vision and enterprise’, celebrating the enduring partnership between India and France. He said that this partnership is bound not only by treaties but also by trust.
He said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India-France relations have become one of the world’s most comprehensive strategic partnerships, linking ‘strategy with soul and innovation with inclusivity’.
From defense and space cooperation to clean energy, digital transformation and sustainable cities, this partnership reflects a shared commitment towards global progress, he said at an event here.
Scindia highlighted key achievements under the Prime Minister’s leadership, including the International Solar Alliance launched by Prime Minister Modi and President François Hollande (2015), cooperation in smart cities and urban infrastructure, the Rafale partnership with Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and the launch of UPI at the Eiffel Tower in Paris (2024), which brought India’s fintech revolution to Europe.
“Today, we are extending that light to the North-Eastern region of India, which is rapidly emerging as a new area of India-France cooperation,” he said.
Scindia stressed that the region, once considered landlocked, is now ‘land-connected and future-ready’.
With an investment of over Rs 6.2 lakh crore under the Government of India’s 10 per cent GBS allocation, the region has connected 96 per cent of villages under BharatNet along with 6,500 km of new roads, 900 km of railways and operationalization of 17 airports.
Highlighting existing French partnerships, Scindia cited examples of French leadership such as Total Energies, Airbus, Dassault Systèmes, Decathlon and POMA, which are already shaping change in the sectors of green energy, aviation, design innovation, retail and sustainable mobility.
