While traveling on the highway, people often face the problem of poor network connectivity in many areas. This causes problems in calling and internet access, which affects many important tasks. In view of this, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has requested the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to improve network connectivity on the highways. NHAI has identified 424 places on 1750 km of highways across the country where mobile network coverage is inadequate.
NHAI statement
In its statement, NHAI said it has identified areas with poor mobile network coverage and sought help from DoT and TRAI. He has given them all necessary information, including locations, and requested them to direct telecom service providers to provide network coverage on national highways, especially in greenfield and remote stretches. The Highway Authority has described the matter as being of strategic importance and related to public safety, and is hopeful of a quick resolution. NHAI said that national highways pass through rural and remote areas, and lack of reliable coverage can delay emergency response and affect many other services.
Discussion is also going on regarding security alert
NHAI also wants safety alerts to be sent to people’s mobile phones through SMS or flash alerts as soon as they enter accident-prone areas on the highway. He has also sought help from TRAI in this regard. NHAI said that people will get this message before reaching the area, so that they can drive more carefully. The authority has also submitted the complete list of such places to TRAI.
