Seoul, June 8 (IANS). Nvidia and SK Hynix said on Monday they have entered into a multi-year technology partnership to advance next-generation memory technology for artificial intelligence (AI) factories.
“We have entered into a very important and long-lasting partnership with SK,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told reporters at SK Group’s headquarters in Seoul.
Huang said the two companies will jointly draw up a technology roadmap and deepen their cooperation beyond traditional memory development, Yonhap news agency reported.
SK Group Chairman Chei Tae-won also said that the partnership marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between the two companies.
“So far, most of our cooperation has focused on memory, but now we will take our partnership to a higher level,” Chei said.
SK Hynix said the partnership will expand its presence in emerging AI sectors such as personal AI and physical AI, as well as help ensure a stable supply of advanced memory products despite long development cycles.
“We are at the beginning of the AI revolution,” Huang said, adding that the future of AI holds great promise.
Huang also said that Nvidia will help SK Hynix expand into new areas such as AI infrastructure and physical AI, as well as work together on memory technology for Nvidia’s next-generation flagship AI platform ‘Vera Rubin’.
Under the agreement, the companies will co-develop memory technology for Nvidia’s next-generation systems, including Vera Rubin AI supercomputers.
SK Hynix, together with local rivals Samsung Electronics Co. and Micron Technology, supplies HBM4, a critical memory component for Vera Rubin. Nvidia said Vera Rubin is now in full production and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year.
The announcement came during Huang’s high-profile visit to South Korea, where he is meeting leaders of major corporate groups and researchers to discuss the possibility of broader collaboration in AI and robotics.
