New Delhi, November 1 (IANS). Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav on Saturday highlighted the growing role of Odisha in India’s semiconductor, electronics and digital ecosystem.
Union Minister Vaishnav, on the occasion of the Bhoomi Pujan and groundbreaking ceremony of Sixem Pvt Ltd’s Compound Semiconductor Fab and ATMP Facility in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, said that the state is becoming a symbol of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s double-engine model of development. Odisha is progressing rapidly in the fields of railways, highways, ports and now electronics and semiconductors.
Union Minister Vaishnav could not attend the program but his video message was played during the function.
The Union Minister highlighted India’s progress in the electronics manufacturing sector in the last decade.
He said, “In the last 11 years, electronics manufacturing has grown six times, while exports have grown eight times. Today, electronics is the third most exported item from India. With projects like this semiconductor facility, Odisha will soon become a state contributing significantly to this growth.”
Regarding Odisha, he said, “Under the leadership of PM Modi, the focus of the central government has always been on balanced regional growth. In this context, Odisha will play an important role in the high-tech future of India.”
Regarding the performance of the students of Rourkela and Berhampur colleges, he said, “I am proud to say that the students of Rourkela and Berhampur colleges of Odisha have successfully designed and manufactured the chip. It is a moment of pride and satisfaction for all of us.”
Emphasizing on the importance of AI and semiconductor training, Union Minister Vaishnav said that the Central Government has already provided its support to 298 universities across India to provide training to their students in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his gratitude to PM Modi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav through a post on social media platform X.
“I heartily thank PM Modi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav for their continued support in making Odisha a key hub for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing,” he wrote in a post.
He further said that the Centre’s guidance and India Semiconductor Mission initiatives have helped the state attract world-class investments, latest technology and high-value employment opportunities.
