New Delhi, May 14 (IANS). According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday, domestic passenger vehicle deliveries to dealers in April registered a 25.4 per cent year-on-year increase to 4,37,312 units. At the same time, last month the sales of two-wheelers increased by 28.4 percent to 18,72,691 units.
The number of three-wheelers shipped to dealers in April increased by 32.8 percent to 65,668 units.
During this period, total vehicle production including passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles stood at 29,22,427 units.
SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said that the strong momentum created in the second half of the financial year 2025-26 continued in the first month of the new financial year 2026-27. Passenger vehicle, three-wheeler and two-wheeler sales recorded strong double-digit growth in April 2026.
He said that sales of passenger vehicles reached a record level of 4.37 lakh units in April 2026, which is 25.4 percent more than April 2025.
Menon further said that three-wheelers also recorded the highest ever sales of 0.66 lakh units, which is an increase of 32.8 percent compared to April 2025.
He further said that about 18.73 lakh two-wheelers were sold in April 2026, registering an increase of 28.4 percent as compared to April last year. Although there is concern about raw material prices due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, demand in the auto industry remains good.
Earlier in March, the supply of domestic passenger vehicles to dealers had increased by 16 percent to 4,42,460 units, due to better demand and increased stock at dealerships.
The outlook for the passenger vehicle segment currently remains positive, although the pace of growth may slow down in the future.
At the same time, according to the data of Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the domestic auto retail industry started the financial year 2027 in a very strong manner. Retail sales of a record 26,11,317 vehicles were recorded in April, which is 12.94 percent higher on an annual basis.
Retail sales of two-wheelers also remained strong, reaching 19,16,258 units in April, the best-ever April month for the category. Demand remained strong across all sectors with growth of 14.07 per cent in urban markets and 12.30 per cent in rural markets.
