New Delhi, May 12 (IANS). Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said India and Chile together reviewed the negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and discussed ways to increase bilateral trade and investment in both the countries.
Taking to social media platform X, Goyal said he had discussions over breakfast with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Perez McKenna and members of the Chilean delegation.
He further said that during this period they discussed progress on CEPA and furthering bilateral trade, investment and strategic partnership.
The Minister further said that India values its long-term partnership with Chile and is committed to strengthening economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts for shared development and prosperity.
“India values our cordial and long-term partnership with Chile, and we are committed to strengthening our economic cooperation and people-to-people ties for shared development and prosperity,” Goyal said.
The talks between the two countries come at a time when India is actively working on several trade agreements with key global partners to strengthen exports, attract investments and diversify supply chains amid global economic uncertainties.
India is focusing on increasing its trading influence in Latin America, with Chile emerging as an important partner in sectors such as minerals, energy, agriculture and services.
The proposed CEPA is expected to further improve market access, reduce trade barriers and promote bilateral investment between the two countries.
The government has also intensified efforts to promote India as a global manufacturing and export hub.
Last week, Goyal had held a series of meetings with global industry leaders and senior executives to explore new trade and investment opportunities.
