Guwahati, July 2 (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state is laying the foundation for responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It aims to accelerate inclusive growth, improve governance and enhance our global competitiveness, while also addressing the risks associated with this emerging technology.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, the CM shared a video. It outlines the government’s vision for AI and the initial steps being taken to integrate this technology into governance and development.
Chief Minister Sarma said, “Assam wants to harness the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence for inclusive growth and improve its competitiveness while also addressing the risks associated with it.”
He said the video explains the basic measures the state is taking to prepare Assam for an AI-based future.
The announcement comes at a time when governments across India are increasingly adopting AI-based solutions to improve public service delivery, strengthen administrative efficiency and boost innovation-led economic growth.
In recent years the Government of Assam has focused on expanding digital governance through online citizen services, digitization of land records, technology-based policing and e-governance initiatives.
Officials believe that AI can further improve the decision making process through data analytics. Can automate everyday administrative processes and improve service delivery in sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture and disaster management.
The state is also working on attracting investments in emerging technologies and creating digital infrastructure as part of its broader development agenda. Industry experts believe that the adoption of AI can create new employment opportunities in the field of technology, research and innovation as well as improve productivity in traditional sectors.
However, policymakers have also stressed the need for measures to address ethical AI use, data privacy protections, and concerns about misinformation, algorithmic bias, and workforce transition.
Recent statements by the Chief Minister indicate that the government wants to strike a balance between innovation and responsible regulation while also creating an ecosystem that supports AI-based development.
It is expected that the AI initiative will further strengthen Assam’s efforts to establish itself as a technology and investment hub in the North-East. These efforts are focusing on skill development, digital infrastructure and innovation-based economic growth.
