American billionaire Elon Musk’s company Starlink is preparing for its launch in India. The company has received the license to provide services in India and is expected to begin operations soon. According to recent reports, Starlink will set up nine satellite stations in cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh, Noida, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow. This will help in providing high-speed internet to the users.
The company has started work
Starlink has started the groundwork to launch its service in India. According to media reports, the company has applied for 600 Gbps capacity for its Generation 1 constellation. The Department of Telecommunications has recently provided provisional spectrum to Starlink to confirm the security standards. This will allow the company to import 100 user terminals for demo of its fixed satellite service.
Starlink will have to follow strict conditions
Starlink has to follow strict conditions for its service in India. The company had proposed to bring in foreign technical experts to operate its stations, but the government made it clear that only Indian citizens would operate these stations until security clearance was obtained from the Home Ministry. Similarly, during the testing phase, Starlink cannot provide its services to the public. He will also have to ensure that all the data generated during the trial will be stored securely in India. Additionally, Starlink will have to submit a report to the DoT every 15 days, which will include station locations, user terminals and specific locations of users.
